They are a safe technology, but when one fails on the water the consequences can be severe. This self-paced online course shows you how these batteries fail, how to charge and store them safely on board, the risks of the marine environment, the warning signs, and how to respond safely in an emergency.

This course is designed to build general awareness of lithium-ion battery fire risks on vessels, safe charging and storage, warning signs, and basic emergency response principles. It is an informational and educational course only.
Completion of this course, and any certificate issued on completion, does not constitute professional certification, a trade qualification, or a statement of competency under the Australian Qualifications Framework. It does not qualify the holder to perform electrical work, marine electrical installation, emergency response, firefighting, hazardous materials handling, or any other regulated activity. All electrical work on a vessel, including installing or retrofitting lithium-ion batteries, must be carried out by an accredited marine electrician in accordance with AS/NZS 3004.2 and relevant standards.
