Lithium-ion battery fires behave differently to conventional fires — they ignite fast, burn hotter, and can reignite hours after appearing extinguished. This bundle gives homes, workshops, and warehouses with EV charging or battery storage the core layer of protection recommended for lithium-ion fire risk: suppression, containment, signage, and respiratory protection in one kit.

What's included:

  • EV Fire Extinguisher (9L)purpose-built for EV and home charging station lithium-ion battery fires
  • EV Fire Blanket — rated for lithium-ion battery fires, to smother and contain thermal runaway
  • Fire Blanket Location Signcompliant signage so the blanket is easy to locate in an emergency
  • 225 x 150mm Fire Extinguisher Sign — clear extinguisher location signage
  • Sundström SR 200 Full Face Respirator Kit (ABEK1 + P3) — protects against the toxic gases and particulates released during lithium-ion battery fires

Why it matters:

Lithium-ion battery fires release hydrogen fluoride and other toxic gases as part of thermal runaway — general-purpose extinguishers and dust masks aren't rated for this. This bundle pairs a lithium-ion-rated extinguisher and fire blanket with proper respiratory protection and signage, so the right equipment is on hand and easy to find if an EV, e-bike, or battery storage fire starts.

Ideal for: homes with EV charging, private garages, small workshops, and warehouses storing or charging lithium-ion batteries.

Product features

Electric vehicles and home battery storage have changed the fire risk profile of Australian homes and workplaces. Lithium-ion battery fires ignite through thermal runaway — a rapid, self-sustaining chemical reaction that can reach several hundred degrees within seconds, release toxic and flammable gases, and reignite hours or even days after the fire appears to be out. Conventional fire safety equipment isn't designed for this.

The EV Fire Safety Bundle brings together five purpose-selected products to give homes, garages, workshops, and warehouses a complete first-response layer for lithium-ion battery fire risk:

Suppression and containment. The 9L EV fire extinguisher is formulated for lithium-ion battery fires involving EVs and home charging equipment, while the fire blanket is rated to smother and contain a battery fire and starve it of oxygen — a critical second line of defence given how easily lithium-ion fires reignite.

Location and compliance signage. Both the fire extinguisher and fire blanket are matched with dedicated location signage, so equipment is quick to find under pressure and the site meets standard fire equipment signage expectations.

Respiratory protection. Lithium-ion battery fires release hydrogen fluoride and other toxic combustion gases well before flames are visible. The Sundström SR 200 full-face respirator, fitted with combined ABEK1 + P3 cartridges, protects against organic and inorganic gases, acid gases, ammonia, and particulates — protection a standard smoke mask does not provide.

Together, this bundle is built for anyone charging or storing lithium-ion batteries: EV owners with home charging bays, tradies and small workshops, strata and body corporate common areas, and warehouses storing e-bikes, e-scooters, or battery stock. It's designed as a first-response layer to complement your site's fire safety measures, not to replace them.

Product FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What's in this kit?
Five purpose-selected items for lithium-ion fire risk in one bundle: a 9L EV fire extinguisher (complies with EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007), an EV fire blanket (tested to EN 13501), a fire blanket location sign, a 225 x 150mm fire extinguisher sign, and a Sundstrom SR 200 full-face respirator with ABEK1 + P3 cartridges (AS/NZS 1716:2012). It gives homes, garages, workshops and warehouses a complete first-response layer: suppression, containment, signage and respiratory protection.
Why does this kit include a respirator?
The Sundstrom SR 200 is a full-face respirator fitted with combined ABEK1 + P3 cartridges, certified to AS/NZS 1716:2012. Lithium-ion battery fires release hydrogen fluoride and other toxic gases, often before flames are visible, and a standard dust mask or smoke mask does not protect against them. The ABEK1 + P3 combination guards against organic, inorganic and acid gases, ammonia and particulates.
Why have both an extinguisher and a blanket?
They do different jobs. The extinguisher lets you tackle a fire early, cooling the battery and interrupting thermal runaway. The blanket contains what you can't put out, smothering the flames and slowing the spread to nearby vehicles or structures while you wait for the fire brigade. Together they cover you from the first sign of trouble through to containment.
What are the signs for?
The two signs mark where the extinguisher and blanket are, so the equipment is quick to find under pressure and the site meets standard fire-equipment signage expectations. On a larger site, position them clearly along the path people would take to reach the equipment.
Do the standards mean it's certified for Australia?
There is currently no Australian Standard specific to lithium-ion battery fires. The extinguisher complies with EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007 and the blanket is tested to EN 13501 (both European standards), and the respirator is certified to AS/NZS 1716:2012. Note this kit is a first-response layer; it is not intended as sole fire protection in a commercial fire-rated environment, check your site's WHS and fire compliance requirements.
How do I use the extinguisher and blanket in an emergency?
Extinguisher, follow the PASS method: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire or the battery, Squeeze the handle, Sweep side to side, focusing on cooling the battery. Blanket, if it's safe, place it over the vehicle or item to smother the flames and contain the fire, then get clear. Only tackle a small fire in its early stages, and only if it's safe to do so.
Will it fully put the fire out, and should I still call 000?
Always call 000 immediately. This kit is a first response and containment tool, not a replacement for the fire brigade. A lithium-ion battery can stay hot and reignite hours later, so once you've done what you safely can, get clear and let the professionals handle it.
Are the items reusable?
Treat the extinguisher and blanket as single-use, replace them after any discharge or use. The respirator is reusable, but replace its cartridges per the manufacturer's guidance and after any exposure, and store it clean and sealed so it's ready.
Who is this kit for, and what about warranty and shipping?
It's built for homes with EV charging, private garages, small workshops, and warehouses storing or charging lithium-ion batteries, including e-bikes and e-scooters. The extinguisher and blanket carry a 12-month warranty. Shipping is calculated at checkout by location and is free Australia wide on orders over $500. As safety equipment, returns are subject to our standard return policy.
