Frequently asked questions
What is this extinguisher for?
It's a mid-size 4L EV fire suppression unit for lithium-ion battery fires. The 4L is well suited to electric cars, home charging setups and light commercial use. Its formulation is designed to rapidly cool a high-temperature battery fire and help prevent re-ignition, giving you a fast first response.
It says sold out, how do I get one?
The 4L is currently out of stock, with the next shipment expected around mid-September, and we're taking pre-orders now. Email your quantity and delivery postcode to sales@evfiresolutions.com.au and we'll reserve your units and send a quote. No payment is taken until you confirm, and bulk or multi-site quantities are welcome. Shipment timing is an estimate and may shift; we'll keep you updated.
Which size should I choose, 1L, 4L or 9L?
The 4L is the mid-size option, best for electric cars, home charging and light commercial use. The 1L suits e-bikes, e-scooters and smaller lithium devices, and the 9L is for larger EVs and commercial or fleet use. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll help you match it to what you're protecting.
Will a regular fire extinguisher work on a battery fire?
Standard ABC or CO2 extinguishers aren't formulated for lithium-ion battery fires. They may briefly knock down flames but don't address the heat inside the cells or prevent re-ignition. This unit is designed to cool the battery and interrupt thermal runaway, which is what matters most with lithium-ion.
Does it meet a standard?
There is currently no Australian Standard specific to lithium-ion battery fires. This suppression unit complies with the European and international standard EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007.
How do I use it in an emergency?
Follow the PASS method: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire or the battery area, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from side to side. With lithium-ion, focus on cooling the battery itself. Only tackle a small fire in its early stages and only if it is safe to do so, if it's large, spreading or you're unsure, get clear and wait for the fire brigade.
Should I still call 000 if I have this extinguisher?
Always call 000 immediately. This extinguisher is a first line of response to help contain and cool a fire until emergency services arrive, not a replacement for them. A lithium-ion battery can stay hot and reignite, so once you've got clear, let the professionals handle it.
How do I maintain and inspect it?
Carry out a monthly visual check: confirm the pressure gauge sits in the green zone, the pin and seal are intact, and there's no physical damage. Inspect it annually and service it in line with the manufacturer's specifications. Replace it if the gauge shows a loss of pressure, or once it has been used.
Where should I store it, and can it be reused?
Keep it in an easy-to-reach, visible spot near where you park or charge, wall-mounted brackets work well. It suits home and garage storage and normal temperature variation; avoid prolonged moisture or chemical contact. It cannot be reused: once discharged, even partially, replace it and fit a fresh unit.
Is it suitable for workplaces and fleets, and what about warranty and shipping?
Yes, the 4L suits light commercial use; for larger vehicles or multiple charging points, the 9L or several units usually suit better, contact us or see our Business & Bulk page for volume orders. The unit carries a 12-month warranty, shipping is calculated at checkout by location, and shipping is free Australia wide on orders over $500. As safety equipment, returns are subject to our standard return policy.
