Frequently asked questions
What is this extinguisher for?
It's a 1L EV fire suppression unit made for lithium-ion battery fires, sized for e-bikes, e-scooters and smaller lithium devices. Its formulation is designed to rapidly cool a high-temperature battery fire and help prevent re-ignition, giving you a fast first response at home or wherever you charge.
Why not just use a normal fire extinguisher?
Lithium-ion battery fires are driven by heat inside the cells, so the priority is cooling, not just knocking down flames. Many standard extinguishers aren't formulated for that. This unit is purpose-made to cool the battery and suppress the electrical and chemical fire typical of lithium-ion, and to help stop it reigniting.
What size should I choose, 1L, 4L or 9L?
The 1L is right-sized for e-bikes, e-scooters and smaller lithium devices, and for personal and home use. For mid-sized EVs and larger home setups, the 4L suits better, and for larger EVs, commercial and fleet use, choose the 9L. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll help you match it to what you're protecting.
Does it meet a standard?
There is currently no Australian Standard specific to lithium-ion battery fires. This suppression unit complies with the European and international standard EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007.
How do I use it in an emergency?
Follow the PASS method: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire or the battery area, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from side to side. With lithium-ion, focus on cooling the battery itself. Only tackle a small fire in its early stages and only if it is safe to do so, if it's large, spreading or you're unsure, get clear and wait for the fire brigade.
Should I still call 000 if I have this extinguisher?
Always call 000 immediately. This extinguisher is a first line of response to help contain and cool a fire until emergency services arrive, not a replacement for them. A lithium-ion battery can stay hot and reignite, so once you've got clear, let the professionals handle it.
How do I maintain and inspect it?
Carry out a monthly visual check: confirm the pressure gauge sits in the green zone, the pin and seal are intact, and there's no physical damage. Inspect it annually and service it in line with the manufacturer's specifications. Replace it if the gauge shows a loss of pressure, or once it has been used.
Where should I store it?
Keep it in an easy-to-reach, visible spot near where you charge or store your e-bike or e-scooter. A wall-mounted bracket works well. It suits home and garage storage and normal temperature variation; avoid prolonged moisture or chemical contact.
Can it be reused after discharge?
No. Once it has been discharged, even partially, replace it. Don't return a used or part-used unit to storage as if it's ready, treat any use as the end of that unit's life and fit a fresh one.
Is it suitable for workplaces and fleets, and what about warranty and shipping?
Yes, though for larger vehicles or multiple charging points the 4L or 9L units, or several 1L units, usually suit better, contact us or see our Business & Bulk page for volume orders. The unit carries a 12-month warranty, shipping is calculated at checkout by location, and shipping is free Australia wide on orders over $500. As safety equipment, returns are subject to our standard return policy.
