Frequently asked questions
What's in this kit?
Two layers of defence for lithium-ion battery fires: a 4L EV fire extinguisher (complies with EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007) for a rapid first response that cools the battery, and a 5m x 5m fibreglass fire blanket (tested to EN 13501, 1100 degrees C working temperature) to contain a fire caused by thermal runaway. It's a practical step up from a basic kit, suited to smaller vehicles, mobility scooters, home charging and workshops. Buying them together is cheaper than buying each on its own.
Why have both an extinguisher and a blanket?
They do different jobs. The extinguisher lets you tackle a fire early, cooling the battery and interrupting thermal runaway. The blanket contains what you can't put out, smothering the flames and slowing the spread to nearby vehicles or structures while you wait for the fire brigade. Together they cover you from the first sign of trouble through to containment.
What size vehicle does the 5m x 5m blanket suit?
The 5m x 5m is best for smaller vehicles, mobility scooters, forklifts, e-bikes, e-scooters and equipment, not a full passenger car. If you need to cover a whole EV, choose one of our 8m x 6m car bundles instead, ask us if you're unsure.
Do the standards mean it's certified for Australia?
There is currently no Australian Standard specific to lithium-ion battery fires. The extinguisher complies with the European and international standard EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007, and the blanket is tested to the European EN 13501 fire safety standard, both recognised, rigorous benchmarks.
How do I use each item in an emergency?
Extinguisher, follow the PASS method: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire or the battery, Squeeze the handle, Sweep side to side, focusing on cooling the battery. Blanket, if it's safe, place it over the vehicle or item to smother the flames and contain the fire, then get clear. Only tackle a small fire in its early stages, and only if it's safe to do so.
Will it fully put the fire out, and should I still call 000?
Always call 000 immediately. This kit is a first response and containment tool, not a replacement for the fire brigade. A lithium-ion battery can stay hot and reignite hours later, so once you've done what you safely can, get clear and let the professionals handle it.
Is the kit reusable?
Treat both items as single-use emergency protection. Once the extinguisher has been discharged, even partially, replace it, and once the blanket has been used on a fire, replace it too. If either is damaged or you're unsure it's still fit for use, don't rely on it.
How do I store and maintain it?
Keep both items accessible and visible near where the vehicle or equipment is parked, charged or stored, the extinguisher on a bracket or shelf and the blanket in its bag. Give the extinguisher a monthly visual check (gauge in the green zone, pin and seal intact, no damage), inspect it annually, and inspect the blanket for damage. Both suit garage and workshop storage and normal temperature variation; avoid prolonged moisture or chemical contact.
What about warranty and shipping?
Both items carry a 12-month warranty. Because of the size and weight, shipping is calculated at checkout based on your location, and shipping is free Australia wide on orders over $500. As safety equipment, returns are subject to our standard return policy, contact us with any questions.
