Lithium Battery Fire Safety Awareness
Share
Lithium-ion batteries now sit in almost everything we own: phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, e-scooters and home energy storage. They're compact, powerful and convenient, and they behave nothing like an ordinary fire when they fail. That's why we've built a course specifically for the people who live and work around them.
Our new Lithium Battery Fire Safety Awareness course is a short, self-paced online program that turns that risk into something you can recognise, prevent and respond to with confidence.
Why this course, and why now
Battery-related fires are one of the fastest-growing fire risks in Australia, driven by the sheer number of devices we now charge at home and at work. Most incidents give warning signs first, and most are preventable, if you know what to look for. This course is designed to give everyday people, workplaces and fleets that knowledge in a form they'll actually finish: clear, practical and about an hour long.
What you'll learn
Across ten short modules, the course covers the full picture of battery fire safety:
- How lithium-ion batteries work, and what thermal runaway actually is
- The common causes of battery failure, and the early warning signs to watch for
- How to charge and store devices and batteries safely at home and at work
- How to respond in an emergency, and the role of specialised fire safety equipment
- A 25-question assessment, with 80% needed to pass
It's backed by current fire-service and ACCC data, and written for Australian homes, workplaces and fleets.
Who it's for
No prior training or qualification is needed. The course suits individuals and families who charge devices at home, workplaces and fleets that want a consistent safety baseline, building and strata managers dealing with shared storage and charging, facilities and safety teams, tradies and hire businesses, and retailers and installers who sell or service battery products.
How it works
The course is fully self-paced and runs in any web browser on any phone, tablet or computer, with no app to download. Start, stop and resume whenever it suits you. Pass the assessment and you'll receive a certificate of completion valid for 12 months, a simple, documented safety baseline you can keep on file or share with an employer.
It's $69, with Afterpay available at checkout.
Also available in Simplified Chinese
The course is offered in Simplified Chinese as well, with the certificate issued in English, ideal for employers training staff whose first language is not English.
