Why the 9L EV Fire Extinguisher belongs wherever big batteries live
Not all fires are equal — and neither are the extinguishers that fight them. Here's the case for the unit built for larger EVs, fleets, warehouses and charging stations.
Suppression unit
// 9 litre capacity
// EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007
// Cars · fleets · charging stations
Lithium-ion battery fires don't behave like the fires most extinguishers were built to fight. They burn hotter, reignite when you think they're out, and release toxic gases along the way. As electric vehicles, home chargers and battery storage systems become the norm across Australia, the gap between "a fire extinguisher" and "the right fire extinguisher" has never mattered more.
Our 9L EV Fire Extinguisher sits at the top of the range for a reason. It's the unit we recommend when the batteries are bigger, the stakes are higher, and one small extinguisher won't cut it.
The problem with standard extinguishers
Conventional ABC and CO₂ extinguishers weren't designed for lithium-ion chemistry. They can knock down visible flames, but they don't address the real danger: thermal runaway.
When a lithium-ion cell fails, it heats its neighbours, which fail in turn — a self-sustaining chain reaction that can push temperatures as high as 1600°C. That heat is why these fires can reignite hours after they appear to be out, and why a quick blast from the wrong extinguisher can give a false sense of safety.
Controlling an EV fire isn't about smothering flames. It's about cooling the battery and interrupting the runaway before it takes hold.
What the 9L is built to do
The 9L EV Fire Extinguisher uses an advanced suppression formulation designed specifically for high-energy lithium-ion fires. Rather than simply starving a fire of oxygen, it rapidly draws heat out of the battery pack — the mechanism that actually breaks the thermal runaway cycle and helps prevent reignition.
- Advanced fire suppression technology formulated for high-energy lithium-ion battery fires, neutralising intense heat and helping prevent re-ignition.
- 9 litres of capacity — the largest in our range, built for larger EVs, commercial use and fleet operations.
- Lightweight and simple to operate, using the familiar PASS method: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.
- Durable and reliable, built to hold up in both professional and everyday environments.
It complies with European and International Standards EN 3-7:2004 and A1:2007. Worth noting: there is currently no Australian Standard written specifically for lithium-ion battery fires, so these international benchmarks are the recognised reference point. The unit carries a 12-month warranty.
Why the 9L over the 1L or 4L?
Our extinguishers come in three sizes, and the right one comes down to what you're protecting.
The 9L is the choice when a bigger battery — or several of them — means you need more suppression capacity on hand. Think fleet depots, dealerships and service centres, warehouse racking near charging points, strata and commercial car parks, and home setups where an EV and a wall charger share the same garage.
Where the 9L earns its place
Fleets & depots
More vehicles means more exposure. A 9L unit near charging bays lets your team contain an incident while help is on the way.
Warehouses & charging stations
Fixed charging infrastructure is a fixed risk point. Wall-mount a 9L beside it so the right tool is where an incident starts.
Larger & commercial EVs
Bigger packs hold more energy. The 9L gives you the volume to match.
Home charging setups
Charging in an attached or shared garage? The 9L covers both the vehicle and the space around it.
Using it safely
Fire safety equipment supports emergency services — it doesn't replace them. If an EV fire occurs:
- Call 000 immediately. Always. This equipment is designed to contain and control a fire until firefighters arrive.
- Only tackle small, early-stage fires, and only if it's safe to do so.
- If the fire is large, spreading, or you're unsure — evacuate. Your safety comes first, every time.
Keep the unit somewhere accessible — wall-mounted brackets work well. Run a monthly visual check that the pressure gauge sits in the green and the pin and seal are intact, and inspect annually.
Be prepared before you need it
EV fires are statistically rare — but when they happen, they're severe and hard to control. That's the entire case for being ready in advance rather than hoping you never are.
If you're protecting a fleet, a commercial site, a charging station, or simply a larger EV at home, the 9L is the unit built for the job.
